About CCG

Our Story

The first community garden in Hobsonville Point was kick-started by a group of keen gardeners and early residents.  After more than three years of negotiations, regulations, and planning, the garden moved to the current spot on Buckley Ave in summer 2018.  The fruitful results of which are a dedicated garden area bordered by fruit trees and other plants, enclosing 29 raised garden beds, with easy access to water, compost bins and fully-developed pathways.

Much of the initial development was thanks to the council, the Upper Harbour Board, Waterford – the developer of the adjacent retirement village, and HLC (Homes Land Community) – the developers of the land and community at Hobsonville Point. Not to forget the passionately determined band of volunteers.

Our Vision

The Catalina Community Garden aims to promote healthy living through environmental sustainability.  That is, growing and sharing produce while learning new gardening skills and developing a sense of community.

How It Works

The garden includes 28 member plots, a community herb garden and side bed, and a members’ composting area.

The 28 central plots are maintained by families, groups, and individuals, and the produce is their own.  Excess produce is shared through Facebook posts or left in the produce stand.

The herb garden and side bed are for the residents to maintain and share.

Composting is for plot members only simply due to the space available.

Because of the short supply of plots we encourage gardeners to give up their plot if they can’t find the time to garden, or consider plot sharing.  From time to time plots become available – you can register your interest for a plot via our website application form.
